The Bantu Cultural Institute (or simply BANTU) is a non-profit, registered charity organization with extensive national and international experience in effectively working with children and young people utilizing the music, movements and play of Capoeira Angola as tools for empowerment.

FAQs
-
Our school programs are hands-on, inclusive sessions that blend the music, movement, and philosophy of Capoeira Angola with social-emotional learning. Each session is led by experienced Capoeira educators and typically includes warm-up games, partner work, music and rhythm activities, and a roda, the traditional Capoeira circle where students play together. Programs can be delivered as part of the school curriculum (PDHPE, Creative Arts, Intercultural Understanding) or as an after-school offering. We work closely with teachers to align sessions with learning outcomes and the specific needs of the student group.

We work with young people from primary school through to high school, typically ranging from ages 5 to 18. Our programs are designed to be fully inclusive and are equally effective for students with diverse learning needs, students from EAL/D backgrounds, and those who may struggle to engage in traditional classroom settings. We also offer capacity-building workshops for educators and youth workers of all ages who want to bring these tools into their own practice.

Capoeira Angola is built on principles of respect, cooperation, listening, and joy. These values translate directly into improved wellbeing outcomes for young people. Through regular practice, students develop body awareness, emotional regulation, and confidence. The non-verbal, movement-based nature of Capoeira makes it particularly powerful for students who find verbal expression difficult, including those experiencing anxiety, trauma, or social isolation. Our programs have a strong track record: 85% of participants report increased confidence and engagement, and teachers consistently observe improvements in peer relationships, behaviour, and classroom focus.
